Over time and its use the hard disk is filled with temporary files that are mostly useless once they have been used. The result is that it takes up space that could be used for something else. Also, it is necessary to think that often the malware settles in the temporary files, from where the importance of emptying them regularly.
To do this, Windows has a tool that we will show you to use. It is called “Disk Cleanup”
CAUTION: Although incidents with this tool are rare, it is strongly recommended that you back up at least one of your data before handling it.
From the toolbar, open This PC is selected in the left column
Select in the right window Local Disk (C 🙂 or the partition of your operating system if it is different. Take the opportunity to see the amount of free space in GB. You can compare at the end. Then make a right click on it.
In the menu that appears, select Properties
In the new window make sure the General tab is selected and click the Disk Cleanup button
Windows calculates the space to release. It is not recommended to cancel this process. For a description of the files and to help you choose, select it from the list. The description will be displayed below.
To also clean system files, first select the Clean System Files button . (That’s what I recommend)
Windows recalculates the space to release
Select the boxes in front of each item you want to clean. Scroll down with the scroll bar to see everything. In our case, all items will be selected.
On the right of the list you can see the amount of space that will be released.
Ko is the smallest unit of measure followed by MB, the largest being the Go.
If you have already upgraded from another version of Windows like Win 7 or if you have
upgraded from Windows 10 you will probably have a folder named Windows.old at the root of (C 🙂 . Normally, this folder
contains your old documents in case of malfunction of the new version. Windows keeps it for a limited time but hopefully with your system you can delete them because it often contains several GB.
Make OK to continue
Warning: This is where you can cancel if you are not sure. Otherwise, click Delete Files to continue.
Disk cleaning begins. Be patient as it may take several minutes depending on the amount of files to delete.
It is not recommended to cancel the process.
Once completed, all that remains is confirmed by clicking OK in the Disk Properties window.
